Artist Residency in St. Andrews, New Brunswick

Thank you to the Kingsbrae International Residency for the Arts for the transformative one-month residency. The food, accommodations and art studios created ideal conditions to focus on two new bodies of work. The town of St. Andrews is not only a beautiful place to be, but is full or artists and people who support the arts. Open Studios each Saturday were lively exchanges with kind and engaged people. The other artists attending the program were professional, talented and a joy to be around. I could go on and on - and certainly feel lucky and grateful for the experience. Reflecting on “The Figure in Action” painting and drawing workshop in Assisi, Italy

It is hard to be brief in describing the joy of teaching figure drawing and painting in Assisi. Being surrounded by beautiful art, architecture, history, nature, people, and food, definitely helps one feel inspired and creative. I believe all of us can learn something about art-making that enhances the way we see the world whether we consider ourselves to be practicing artists or not. Based on feedback, I think each workshop student came away with a new way of seeing things…which is a great gift, both in our daily routine at home or on adventures far away. Thank you to Schola Artis Pro Vobis for partnering with me to hold this workshop!

Juried Artist Registry NEWS!

After visiting the National Museum of Women in the Arts years ago in Washington, DC, I was delighted to learn that each state can participate in the museum’s mission by forming a state chapter. “Helen Walton and Ed Dell Wortz established the Arkansas Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in 1989 to carry out the NMWA’s mission: boosting awareness and appreciation of women artists, who are still underrepresented in museums and undervalued in the market.”

I am honored to be recently selected for the registry among some of my favorite Arkansas artists. To learn more about the organization and 2023-2025 selected artists, click here.

New York Studio School - Jan. 2023 Drawing Marathon

The storied “Drawing Marathon” at the New York Studio School has a long reputation in New York artist circles for being the no-frills, hard core, dig deep, workhorse program for those obsessed with pushing, digging, expanding and elevating the practice of drawing. I got to work under the direction of instructor Ilse Murdock from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm for two weeks. The mornings started with presentations or critiques of work from the previous day and moved into roughly 3 hours with live model figure drawing. The afternoons included presentations, critiques, the study of historical and contemporary artists, and project assignments. One afternoon the assignment was to make 50 drawings! It was HEAVEN. Thank you to the New York Studio School for the transformative experience.
